What Is Changing?
WDET has been growing in both our reach and impact. But ready or not, it’s time to take the next step towards becoming fiscally independent.
Today, WDET faces an unexpected new challenge. Due to budget pressures and the need to focus limited resources towards its core educational mission, Wayne State University will reduce the annual financial subsidy it provides WDET for basic operations.Because of this change in our funding mix, WDET must raise $550k this fall– twice as much as last year.
of WDET’s budgeted revenue in 2018 will come from listeners and local businesses.
WDET listeners are our most reliable source of funding.
As a non-profit media organization, we’re able to avoid the pressures of corporate interests thanks to the support of our members. When you make a gift to WDET, you help ensure that WDET can continue to make programming decisions that put our community’s needs first.
There’s a reason no other radio station sounds like WDET. Independence allows us to deliver a unique mix of local news, arts and culture, storytelling and music that is authentically Detroit. In fact, over 50% of our annual budget goes towards the creation of local programming that you can’t find anywhere else on the dial.
